Mari K. Schaan
BIOGRAPHY
Mari Schaan concentrates her legal practice in insurance law, including coverage, bad faith and extra-contractual and all insurance defense matters related to transportation litigation, product defect, premises liability, professional negligence, and medical malpractice, with an emphasis on catastrophic injury claims.
She joined Hall Prangle in 2018 after spending a decade at Las Vegas-based law firm Alverson, Taylor, Mortensen & Sanders, then working briefly as one of the founding partners at Hooks Meng Schaan & Clement, a firm focused exclusively on industrial and OSHA claims. Her clients at those firms and today included medical practitioners, construction and general industry companies, tire manufacturers, equipment manufacturers and lessors, and automotive and recreational vehicle manufacturers and distributors. Schaan also defended and continues to defend an array of insurance carriers, freight carriers, transportation companies, and individual drivers involved in motor vehicle, motorcycle, and recreational vehicle accidents. Mari’s practice also continues to include defense of numerous retail and hospitality clients, including various stores, hotels, casinos, and restaurants involved in premises liability litigation.
Mari has tried cases to verdict, obtained summary judgment for her clients, and has substantial experience with motion practice in both Nevada Federal and District Courts, as well as mediations, arbitrations, and administrative hearings before the Nevada Department of Administration. Mari is also a Court appointed arbitrator in the Eighth Judicial District Court’s Annexed Arbitration Program. Mari’s individual practice is focused on providing the best possible outcome for her clients at the initial stage of a dispute and throughout the life of the matter, whether it includes settlement, litigation, mediation, arbitration, or trial.
Mari grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota, so it’s natural that since moving to Nevada she’s become an avid fan of her city’s hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights. She studied literature, art and philosophy as an undergraduate at North Dakota State University before earning her law degree at the University of North Dakota in 2008. She also loves her German Shepherds and the outdoors and counts archery and fly fishing among her hobbies.
