The Women's Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) announced today that Michele Anderson, Hiring Partner at Hall Prangle & Schoonveld, LLC (HPS), is one of the recipients of the 2022 Top Women Lawyers & Legislators in Leadership Awards.

Illinois University College of Law (College of Law) recognized Hall Prangle and Schoonveld, LLC (HPS) as a valued employer partner at a dinner in Chicago on September 21, 2022.  

The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer have named HPS attorney Krista Luzio as one of their 40 under Forty Attorneys to Watch for 2022. Krista earned an undergraduate degree from Butler University and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. She joined HPS in 2009 and became a partner in 2016.

Gilma Bernal is in her second year at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Over the summer of 2022, she was a law clerk in Hall Prangle and Schoonveld’s Chicago Office.

While the legal field is moving towards a remote-based world, I am thankful that I clerked in-person at Hall Prangle and Schoonveld over the summer.

Intrapartum uterine contractions and engagement of the fetus in the birth canal can compress the fetal head. There is a long-standing view that this head compression is benign in most cases, and that it’s a common cause of intrapartum fetal heart rate decelerations.

Unless and until there is a further general order, it appears that the unsettled status of the constitutionality and the retroactivity of the PJI statute will remain in limbo in Cook County for whatever time (two – three years?) it will take before the Supreme Court reviews the statute and issues a decision on these issues.

Jacob Goldstein, Co-Chair HPS Appellate Group, successfully defended a 2020 HPS verdict on appeal before the Illinois Appellate Court, First District.

The plaintiffs appealed the 2020 defensive verdict in a case that was defended by HPS attorneys Marilee Clausing and Matt Kaminski. The case involved claims that a family medicine physician failed to diagnose and treat the plaintiff's rare blood disorder, which caused a catastrophic stroke and permanent neurological damage.

Hall Prangle and Schoonveld, LLC (HPS) would like to recognize Rose Bais and Sophia Sarmiento for completing their 6-week internship at HPS.

HPS Attorneys Marilee Clausing, Molly Pankauskas and Sarah Frazer successfully defended two obstetricians against claims that their care at a Chicago area hospital during the patient’s delivery resulted in neurological damage to the minor plaintiff.

Bradley H. Rowe joins HPS to defend healthcare professionals, hospitals and hospital systems in the Florida panhandle area against medical malpractice claims. A former Assistant Public Defender, Brad has defended clients in over 30 jury trials and numerous bench trials.

Ann Ford, Partner at Hall Prangle and Schoonveld, LLC (HPS), and Managing Director of HPS Advise, has been named one of Chicago Daily Law Bulletin & Chicago Lawyer’s 2021 Salute! Women in Law Award honorees. According to CDLB’s website, this award is based on the nominee’s “work to mentor and promote other women in the profession, their success in the legal community and being a shining example of leadership.”

Late last month, eleven members of Hall Prangle &Schoonveld, LLC (HPS) took part in the 27th annual Race Judicata, a 5K race benefiting Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (“CVLS”). Founded in 1964, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) provides accessible and pro bono civil legal aid to the community servicing thousands of Chicagoans annually. The mission of CLVS is something that HPS is proud to support.

Las Vegas Weekly named HPS Partner Casey Tyler as one of its 2022 peer-nominated top lawyers. Casey was recognized for his work with insurance companies that provide coverage for healthcare organizations.

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of HPS partner Amy Kane, a beloved friend and member of our professional family. Amy’s knowledge, legal skill and trial expertise made her a formidable attorney, but those traits paled in comparison to her kindness, empathy, and generosity of spirit. Amy brought all of this – mixed with humor – to everything she did, making her a joy to work with. Her loss is devastating to all of us.

HPS Attorneys David Hall, David Kalimuthu and Gina Ambrose defended a Chicago-area neurosurgeon against allegations of negligence related to Plaintiff’s spinal surgery to address an extremely large herniated disc compressing on the spinal cord.
